A new Task Force has been set up to tackle barriers to competition and the competitiveness of Europe?s information and communication technology sector.
The Task Force?s first meeting on 6th June kicked off a 5-month debate on challenges and opportunities faced by ICT producers and users, in particular those created by the convergence of digital networks, content and devices.
Made up of high-level representatives of industry, trade unions, consumers and academics, the Task Force will identify major obstacles to competitiveness and recommend possible policy responses. It has been set up as one of several European Commission initiatives that aim to create a more favourable environment for business in Europe.
Amongst the subjects to be addressed include ICT uptake, intellectual property & innovation and ICT skills. It will also be possible to contribute on-line to the debate via the Task Force website at http://ec.europa.eu/enterprise/ict/taskforce.htm where more information can also be found.
